| Sparky - 3 year old male. Poor Sparky has lived a horrible life - he was first allowed to just roam free which got him
run over. His stupid owners never got him any medical help but instead decided to keep him "safe" by chaining him to the end of
their double wide without any shelter. He lived that way until a good samaritan was able to convince the owners that they had no
time for him. He came into rescue as sweet and loving as any dog we've seen. He was also not neutered and positive for heartworms
and ehrlichiosis and 15 lbs underweight. Sparky looked like and acted like a living skeleton. We thought at first his unsteady gait
was because of the malnutrition and ehrlichiosis but when we had him xrayed it shocked our vet. She had never seen such horrid xrays
on a dog! Sparky is the most wonderful boy - he even licked the vet's hand as she was administering his painful heartworm shot. He
has been a total trooper through his neuter and heartworm treatment and is beginning to feel better. The day before we started the
heartworm treatment he even tried to run and play a little with his foster brother - it was a sad, sad sight to see him with his stiff
gait trying to limp along with the other dogs. Here is the report of University of MO after we sent his xrays to them for a consult: Diagnosis: severe pelvic fracture malunions, left coxofemoral luxation, pelvic canall narrowing (~50%) marked bony remodeling of pelvis Recommendations: If neurologic function is completely intact (which they are) and defecation and urniation are not currently affected (he is fine in these areas also), then good prognosis could be achieved with staged femoral head & neck excisions & rehabilitation. Cost estimate: $1,200 - $1,400 per side for FHNE, $2,000 - $2,400 for right side if reconstruction is needed. They will give us a 20% discount for being rescue. Sparky has to recover from his heartworm treatment before we can help him, so we do have some time to try and find the money to help this wonderful boy! We have several dogs that are requiring surgery and heartworm treatment. Do you want to change the future for these dogs? Here's how to donate to Sparky's surgery! Thank you! |

| Isis and Nyx 4 month old mixes, spayed, UTD on shots, cratetrained, working on housebreaking. These poor little girls were dumped along a major road and left to fend for themselves. They were covered with ticks and fleas and bone thin and scared to death. Isis is the merle and she is the more dominant of the 2 girls. She looks for attention from her foster mom and loves to be petted and held. Nyx, the little black girl is the more submissive one and is really making an effort to trust people. We have separated the sisters as they were way too dependent on each other when they first came in. I have no idea as to what breed they truly are mixed with but my guess would be aussie and german shepherd although I do not think they will get much larger than an average aussie female. |

| Moxie is a Border Collie mix and was rescued from Animal Control after being left there. She was put on "death row" because she had kennel cough, but luckily a kind woman rescued her and contacted us. She was approximately 8 weeks old as of June 1st. Since being rescued her kennel cough is gone and she has gotten one set of puppy shots and has been de-wormed. She is a very energetic puppy with lots of herding potential. Because she has not had any training until going to her foster home she would be best placed in a home that is familiar with this breed as well as a home without young children. She loves other dogs and is fearless. She is progressing well with her crate training, housebreaking and walking on a leash. This little girl loves to please and to be around people. Because of her desire to herd she needs to be placed in a home without cats. |

| Chesney is a 4 year old male, UTD on all vaccinations and heartworm negative. House broken, and crate trained. He is such a big boy, at 65 lbs!!! He is gorgeous, being an ex-show dog. Was turned into rescue because he could no longer compete in the show ring due to Juvenile Cataracts. He has since had surgery to correct this, and is now loving his new eye sight which is improving everyday! He will need eye drops placed in his eyes each day, but he is an absolute angel when it comes to taking them. He will just sit and let you do what needs to be done, not moving until its finished! Gets along with other dogs, but can be a little dominate if given the chance. He absolutely loves kids, and truly is a velcro dog. Chesney will need an owner who will dedicate the time he demands and isn't afraid of being the "pack leader." | Update on Chesney: Since he has come into rescue we have discovered that Chesney is afraid of certain men and will growl at them. We haven't been able to figure out who he is afraid of and who is just fine - they do not fit any exact criteria. In speaking with his former owner, we have discovered that there was a lot of violence in the home situation when Chesney was growing up. The ex-husband was verbally and physically abusive not only to Chesney but to the wife. Chesney became very protective of the woman and children in the home and totally terrified of the man - thus his fear. We need to find a home that has few male visitors and that would be willing to crate Chesney when there are new men visiting. He has not bitten anyone, just shows a lot of fear with the behavior of growling and watching the perceived "bad" men. We most certainly do not want to give up on Chesney - he has so many great qualities, but we must find a home that will fit his personality and be able to deal with his fear. He is well worth the small amount of effort it would take to help him never feel like some man was going to hurt him or someone he loves ever again. |

| Jessie 2 to 3 year old aussie mix with a tail. She is UTD on shots, HW negative, spayed, housebroken, cratetrained.
Jessie is a beautiful, loving girl who loves to play with other dogs. She is somewhat shy with new people, but once she warms up,
she is very nice. One of her most favorite things is to nap on the bed with her foster mom - she was a stray but it is quite apparent
that she was someone's housepet. Jessie has undergone treatment for heartworms but is now completely well and ready for her own home.
Jessie was adopted! |

| Steve - 3 to 4 year old black tri male, house broken, UTD on shots, being treated for heartworms,
available June 10th after completion of treatment and a clean bill of health from the vet. Steve came to us from Knoxville, TN where he was sitting on deathrow because of his heartworms. Shelters do not treat dogs, it's cheaper to euthanize them. Steve had some guardian angels at that shelter who pleaded for his life and were granted 2 days to find him a rescue. We were one of the ones they contacted and when we agreed, they figured out a way to get him all the way to St. Louis - 9 hours drive. We are so glad they did - Steve is one awesome dog! The only thing we know about his past is that he was an owner turn in. The owners must have been in a terrible place in their life to say goodbye to this boy. He is so cute and smart and knows so much - shake, speak, sit up and beg, fetch. His most favorite activity is playing fetch with a tennis ball. It is so evident that his former owners spent lots of time and love on him. He rides wonderfully in the car. Steve is an engaging dog that is just too cute to describe. He is not without faults though they are small ones - he does not like puppies and although he does tolerate other dogs, we feel he truly prefers the company of humans over all other creatures and he seems to be slightly afraid of young men when they have hats and/or sunglasses on the hide their eyes. He would be best placed in a home without cats. Steve is one of the most endearing dogs that we have had the pleasure to foster! |

| Macey, 7 month old red merle spayed, microchipped female. Macey and her sister, June Bug, came from a puppymill
breeder who was shut down by the state. Macey was very traumatized at first but is making great strides as you will read from
the description that her foster mom writes. We feel she must go into a home with another dog and would not be a good prospect
for a home with children. The foster mom's statement: I would put in her bio that she is really going to need a home with a well adjusted resident dog. She has changed SO much in the couple days I have had her but it really has helped her to see Newt and Bean interact with us to know what to do. She is running in and out of the back yard, she is jumping on the couch to chill with all of us, she is always smiling now and running and romping all day long. She is turning into the puppy that she really is, starting to chew on stuff and just be a brat but that is ok. We still haven't mastered the leash but I am also not really pushing it as I don't want her to regress because I am pushing her to learn something. |

| Haley - 2 year old black tri female, spayed, microchipped, housebroken, crate trained,
UTD on shots, HW negative. Haley is an easy going, happy girl who knows sit, shake and given 1/2
a chance would be a lap dog. She was an outside dog in her previous life - being chained day
and night. She now loves her life as an inside dog at her foster home. Haley gets along well
with other dogs but may be happiest as an only dog because she craves attention. She would not
be good with cats. Haley is well on the way to being leash trained and would be a very nice
addition to any family. Haley was adopted! |

Sam, 13 year old mix, neutered, HW negative, UTD on shots, housebroken. To meet Sam is to meet an all
around wonderful dog without any problems or issues. This boy was loved dearly and taken care of by his former
owners, but hard times fell on the family and they could no longer afford to feed themselves and their pets. Sam
and his much younger aussie "brother" were placed in a local shelter. We were called about his brother and when
we arrived and met Sam, our volunteer could not leave such a nice boy at the shelter - he was scheduled for the
death chamber that afternoon because of his advanced age. Sam arrived at his foster home as if he had known them all his life - he loved the 9 year old daughter, the other dogs and even the cat. He has been on camping trips, hikes and long car rides with this active family and there has never been an issue of him not being able to keep up because of his age. As a matter of fact, had the former owners not told us of his age, we would have never guessed Sam to be 11. He has the energy and stamina of a much younger dog. Sam has the heart and soul of a dog that will leave an indelible impression on everyone he meets - he is truly special! |
| Pipkin is an energetic, comedic 2 year old mix. Rescued from a shelter, he was a mess - with heartworms, a
very infected eye and balding from ringworm. Today Pipkin has a clean bill of health and is shaping up to be pretty
adorable. Unfortunately, the eye could not be saved but Pipkin doesn't miss a beat (just little depth perception). He
loves to run around with his pals at the dog park, fetching balls and swimming in the baby pool. He's good with the
cats in his foster home. Pipkin would do best in a home with a dog buddy to play with or an owner to run or bike with.
He is also an avid fence jumper so a yard with a taller fence is a must. He's house trained, crate trained and UTD on
shots. Check out this great, lovable, goofball that will win anyone's heart. |

| Buddy, 1 year old neutered border collie mix - UTD on shots, HW negative, housebroken and crate trained. He's very intelligent, gentle and loving. Buddy throws his toys up in the air and tries to get the other dogs to play with him. He likes his chewies and if he gets bored he rearranges not only his toys but the pillows on the couch, shoes that are not put away and anything else he can easily move. He does not destroy anything, just moves them around. Buddy is a very sweet natured dog that wants to please. Buddy needs to be in a home without cats or children - both make him very nervous. He is a very good watch dog but not barky otherwise. |

| Misty is a 7 year old cattle dog mix. She has made it through some tough times in her life, but things have
turned around for her. She is doing wonderful in her foster home and is quite the "funny girl"! If another dog is sleeping
on her favorite bed at night, she will whimper like she has to go outside. Then when the offending dog runs out of the room
thinking she is going outside, Misty will plop down and get real comfortable on the bed! Now the absolutely best news about Misty is that she is down to her swimming suit weight and is ready for summer! She has been working hard all winter and it shows. Some of her favorite things are shopping at PetsMart and going for car rides. Misty is housebroken, crate trained, up to date on all her shots, and ready to spend some quality time with her new family. Find some room on your heart for this fun loving gal, she is waiting for you! |

| Ace 3 year old male, UTD on shots, housebroken, crate trained. Ace was found as a stray in rural Arkansas. Because he was heartworm positive, the shelter had scheduled him to be put to sleep, when a wonderful woman by the name of Jess who does Corgi rescue asked if we could help them. She was so impressed by his sweet nature and wonderful temperament. From his pictures he looks somewhat like aussies and she was willing to bring them to St. Louis and even gave us a donation to help pay for their heartworm treatment. We are so glad we said yes! We do not know what Ace is, but we doubt there is any aussie in him. He is a small boy - under 40 lbs - perhaps a sheltie mix although he seems too calm to be a sheltie. He is very, very quiet, and good in his crate. He is a sweet boy and so cute with a toy in his mouth every minute. He loves balls and likes for you to roll them for him (we go slow with the heartworm). Ace has a lot of personality and is very cute. He shares his toys and waits until the other dog puts it down to go and pick it up again. So he is very polite. He has great facial expressions. He isn't needy and wanting to be petted all the time. Ace is rather independent, however, he is friendly with us. He does not interact much with the other dogs but instead plays on his own with his little toys. He is very wonderful about waiting his turn for a biscuit with the others without any arguing. He is a good watch dog and will bark at anyone strange that comes to the door or the backyard. He has also completed his heartworm treatment successfully |
